From 2003 - 2006 I authored a monthly article for LitKorner at NetNacs! and currently I am Senior Moderator/Writing Coordinator at Poetry Galore and some of my writings are listed there. I advocate for literacy, education, the needs of the poor, the sick, the homeless and above all tolerance for everyone. My topics are chosen based on cause and effect, and due to my belief there are connections between these issues.

Giving Words came about because of my own trials and tribulations with literacy and my love for poetry. I also had a strong desire to have my own award program that honored others. My experience as an evaluator includes reviewing sites for various programs since 2003. My knowledge of HTML is self taught, and I have been learning since 1999. As of October 2007 the award portion of Giving Words is closed but my efforts for literacy continue.

As much as I love poetry and books, I know only too well the difficulties one may encounter with low literacy levels. In elementary school I was placed in a slow readers group. During high school what once was a struggle for me became a mad love. Reading and writing were then and still are outlets for me. It was thanks to teachers and programs set in place that my weaknesses were nurtured and strengthened with encouragement and praise. I am sad to think about the programs that are not funded or the countries where children simply are not able to get an education.

I was blessed with books and school. I was presented exercises and assignments that I enjoyed and wanted to find success with. When challenges were presented to me so was the help and assistance that anyone at any age needs and deserves. Consider the consequences of our own neglect and then consider the change that our awareness and attention can make.
