Jo's Bio from Firestarter Pyrograghy

I have had several requests asking to know about myself and my art. I have always loved art, I studied it at school, and it was one of my favourite subjects along with English and Geology. I loved learning about different mediums, especially oil pastels. I only decided to specialise in art at the end of my first year studying for my A levels. I decided to concentrate on graphic design, although I now realise that my portfolio was rather full of illustrative pieces and lacking in typography! During my time at college I learnt about typography and design, with only small amounts of illustrative projects. I always tried to sneak an illustration into my work, much to the dissaproval of my tutors! This was the time of minimal graphics, minute typography with lots of white space! I needed colour, vibrancy and most importantly - expression! I eventually learnt to get a good crit, by simply adding small text, but what a way to squash an individual's talent? When I look back now I realise that this is definitely not the way to teach. Pupils must not leave college as clones!

Review and Commendation

Meet the extremely talented artist Jo Phillips, Pyrographer using fire writing, an ancient and unusual art. It is burning the surface of a wood panel to various depths of brown to make a picture. Jo shows us this art form with both wood and leather. We are taken step by step into learning more about this medium through her Pyro School where one will be instructed in depth about Pyrography, Shading, Textures, Nibs, Wood, Patterns and where all lessons of Jo's Pyro School are described and illustrated.

The results of this medium are found in the galleries shared. There is the wood gallery, a leather gallery, pet portraits, wood slices and the galleries have submenus that offer the possibility to see a detailed view of every item. We are also invited to Tollesbury, and given a listing of dates where Jo takes her craft on the road, to get a real life look at Craft Fairs and Workshops.

It is impossible to visit Firestarter Pyrography and not be impressed with Jo. What a wonderful display, an incredible teaching place for anyone interested in pyrography as a hobby or business, and a fine example of a wonderfully working site. This web mistress shows great skill in doing her innovative art and her website! It is also interesting to see her work in progress. Jo Phillips is an expert in web design and pyrography!
-Thank you Friedrich for your comments that helped writing this review.
