Why create Giving Words?
- To encourage creative writing.
- To raise awareness for literacy issues in our world.
- To provide resources so that you and I together can create change.
FACT: 'Economic, social and cultural factors keep some 121 million children, especially girls, from attending school. Faced with difficult choices, parents often take girls out of school to care for younger siblings, help with household chores or work outside the home to contribute to family income. In the world's least developed countries, only 14 percent of secondary school enrollment is female.' ~Care
FACT: 'For millions of children across the world, access to a quality education is a luxury beyond their reach. Every child should be able to benefit from education, but around 113 million children are denied this fundamental right. The majority is female.' ~UNICEF
The facts listed are ONLY 2 and quite alarming. It is information such as this that drives Giving Words. There are so many world-wide problems and anyone that understands the gift of giving knows how helpless we can feel at times. Not one of us has enough to give to everyone everywhere. We do what we can where we can. Part of what we do is to encourage others to take up our cause and pass it on. It is a huge world with huge problems and at times the most we can be is simply a positive voice in the crowd and hope our words carry.
Literacy may not be the answer to every world-wide problem, it is however a beginning and no one should be denied this human right, for any reason.
'We can do no great things - only small things with great love.' -Mother Teresa
